Pie Baking Contest

When: Saturday, July 16th, 2011

Where: At The Wenatchee Valley Farmers Market, Corner of Palouse and Columbia Streets, Wenatchee

Judging starts 11:00 AM

 

1st Prize:  A total of $100 

($50 JC Penney gift card plus $50 cash from WVFM)

 

2nd Prize: Basket filled with produce and gifts from the Wenatchee Valley Farmers Market

Contest Rules:

  1. Pies must be homemade.
  2. All entries must be baked from scratch (no pre-mixes, canned fillings, commercial mixes, puddings, etc.)
  3. No pies that require refrigeration.
  4. Pies must be removed by owners after the contest.
  5. All entries must be on display by 10:30 am on Saturday, July 16th, 2010 at the Wenatchee Valley Farmers Market. Judging will begin at 11:00 am. Winner will be announced at 12 pm.
  6. Judging will be based on a scale of 1-10 for a total of 50 points on the following criteria:Presentation
    Crust (flavor, texture and aroma)
    Filling (flavor and consistency)
    Originality
    Overall impression
  • The contest is open to everyone, and each contestant can enter as many pies as they wish (a separate entry form must accompany each pie).
  • A recipe for each pie is required for judges’ protection from food allergies. Recipes become the property of the Wenatchee Valley Farmers Market to be published in future cookbooks.
  • In case of a tie, the judges will judge those pies again.
  • All decisions of the Judges are final.

    Tips

    • Bake your pie just before the contest. Residual warmth transmits more flavors to the palate.
    • Be careful transporting a hot pie.
    • Go on, compete anyway! If you don’t think your pie is good enough remember: pie baking is not an exact science, put enough love into it and you could win. You can’t win if you don’t enter.
    • Bring your family and friends for support.
    • Bake two pies, leave one at home. You’ll know you’ve got another wonderful pie at home to share with loved ones.
